Glass Cutting

As part of the conservation process for panels from the Great East Window of York Minster, conservators often need to insert new glass into the panels. New glass has been specially created for the project and is colour-matched exactly to the original medieval pieces. Conservators use modern glass cutters which have a small metal cutting wheel to score the glass, which then can be easily broken. 'Grozing pliers' are used to 'nibble' the glass to shape where necessary.
